- Most cichlid types like to swim in waters that have the temperature of seventy. But this requirement actually differs for some other varieties. You can ask the pet store about the temperature need of the cichlid fish that you have bought before making any steps of putting them in the tank.
- In terms of diet, cichlid fishes like to eat large flak foods. They also love the taste of live and frozen food. You can readily find them in pet stores that sell them. Large cichlids can even gulp earthworm or crickets. It is better to give them a variety of fish food so that can keep themselves active and healthy.
- They are also very territorial so that you need to watch over for this trait especially when it is mating period. The female should be kept away or should be provided with a place to hide to keep her alive as a male cichlid will attack her when disturbed.
- Lastly, keep the water fresh every now and then. Look for faecal evidence and apply the necessary requirement to keep the habitat clean.
